چکیده
Abstract Urban environments may offer certain species diverse and abundant food resources of natural anthropogenic origin. However, the local-scale configuration habitats urban infrastructure influence foraging decisions regardless availability food. In recent years, expansion wild boar Sus scrofa into areas significantly transformed by humans has been observed in many parts its range. Grubbing (rooting) is a major mode species, during which disturbance upper soil layers enables these animals to find consume items. factors that determine selection grubbing sites landscape, where balance between avoidance decisions, are not known. Our aim was identify site size grubbed patches an landscape. The characteristics 108 city Kraków (Poland) were compared randomly selected control sites. probable presence positively correlated with proportion meadows fallow land vicinity increases both canopy cover distance pavements. patch percentage vicinity, increasing buildings decreasing We found non-random pattern landscape indicated vegetation contribute boar. study highlights encroachment wildlife complex process, driven resource human-related disturbances.

habitat suitability modeling for wild boar (sus scrofa) in eastern alamut, qazvin province
wild boar is distributed throughout iran except highly arid areas. in recent years, however, population size of wild boar has increased primarily because of reduction in population size of natural predators such as leopard. conversely, changes in land-use practices and increase in foraging of livestock in natural habitats has led to reduction of food resources and consequently, has forced the s...
متن کاملPuberty in female wild boar (Sus scrofa) in Sweden
BACKGROUND Since the re-appearance of wild boars in Sweden in the 1970s, the population has increased. Besides having large litter sizes, puberty at an early age is considered as an important factor contributing to the high reproductive potential of wild boar. Although controversial, supplemental feeding is applied to varying extent throughout the wild boar range in Sweden, and its effect on wi...
متن کاملChromosome number polymorphism in a litter of European wild boar (Sus scrofa scrofa L.)
Populations of wild boar (Sus scrofa scrofa L.) of Central Europe frequently demonstrate polymorphism in chromosome number. This phenomenon is caused by chromosome rearrangements of the centric fusion type. The presence of Robertsonian translocations in the wild boar population may lead to one of three different karyotypes: 2n=36, 2n=37 and 2n=38. The aim of the study was to analyse the karyoty...
متن کاملThe feasibility of reintroducing Wild Boar (Sus scrofa) to Scotland
The feasibility of reintroducing Wild Boar Sus scrofa to Scotland was investigated using the predictions of a Geographical information System (GIS) and a Population Viability Analysis (PVA). In the first stage of this study we summarized information from published literature on the biology, habitat requirements, home range use and population densities of Wild Boar, and using a GIS we identified...
متن کاملStructural Classification of Wild Boar (Sus scrofa) Vocalizations
Determining whether a species' vocal communication system is graded or discrete requires definition of its vocal repertoire. In this context, research on domestic pig (Sus scrofa domesticus) vocalizations, for example, has led to significant advances in our understanding of communicative functions. Despite their close relation to domestic pigs, little is known about wild boar (Sus scrofa) vocal...
